I read The Wonderful Wizard of OZ by L. Frank Baum and published by George M. Hill Company and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. This is the story of a girl named Dorthy Gale and her adventure in the Land of Oz. She ended up in the land of Oz after being swept away in a cyclone from her home in Kansas. Dorthy travels through Oz to try and meet the wizard of Oz so he can grant her wish and send her back home. On her way, she meets a few unlikely friends who help her along the way. Of course her journey to find the wizard isn't completely easy. The wicked witch tries to stop her!
This story I think can be used for all ages from early elementary grades up to adults! I love the old move that was created and would enjoy showing my students the movie. The movie was created in 1939. I think a great classroom activity that a teacher could do with this story would be to have children act out scenes to it. Also, I think it would be fun to have children choose a character and describe them and their importance to the story and maybe dress up as the character while presenting.
