The Pregnancy Project By Gabby Rodriguez (Non-fiction and Biographies)

I read The Pregnancy Project by Gabby Rodriguez.  This book was published by Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers.  This book is about a teenage girl named Gabby who has always been told that she'd end up becoming a teen mom.  Here mom and older sisters had become teen mothers and people expected her to as well.  Gabby however was not interested in following this so called family tradition and didn't want to be a teen mom.  She wondered how she would be treated if she actually lived these expectations.  She wondered if people would forget how good of a student she was and just focus on her being the pregnant girl with no real future.  She decided to take on a high school project her senior year.  Gabby faked her own pregnancy to see how her family, friends, and community would react.  This book shows how she actually faked her own pregnancy and hid the through.  Gabby tells the story of how she was treated by others.
I don't think this book is appropriate for children in elementary school and so I wouldn't use it in my classroom.  I personally really enjoyed reading Gabby's story and learned a lot from other people's perspective.
