Night By Elie Wiesel (Non-fiction and Biographies)

I read Night written by Elie Wiesel.  This book was published by Hill and Wang and is the first book in the trilogy.  This book is a memoir about the author's experience during his time in concentration camps.  Wiesel explains how his family ended up being taken to these camps and how he was a strong survivor.  He reflects on the the ally's he met during his time at these camps and how they aided him toward his survival.  This is a very graphic book.
This story is one of the more difficult books I've ever had to read.  Every page broke my heart and I had a difficult time reading through Elie's graphic reflection of his memories and what he had to do in order to survive.  I would not recommend this book to any child through elementary school.  I'm 22 years old and I struggled with some of the details.  Although this book was challenging to read, it was an amazing story and completely true.  I think this book gives readers a clear insight to what really happened in concentration camp.
I think for a classroom implication, I would consider having students create an informational poster about Elie Wiesel, or a timeline about what happened and when it happened in the book.
