I read the book Maximum Ride by James Patterson and published by Warner. This is the first book in the series and I ended up reading the whole series. This book is about a 14 year old girl named Maximum Ride, but people call her Max. Her unbiologically related family consist of her, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel. This family, called a flock can fly because they have wings. They became this way because they were created originally as lab experiments. During the first book, Max and her family encounter many challenged of people who want to kidnap the flock.
This story is an easier read when it comes to chapter books. I think middle and upper elementary aged children would really enjoy reading them. I think this might not be a book that I would assign my whole class to read, but a book that I would allow students to choose for a project where they can choose any book they want. I would assess this book by giving students a list of activities to choose from for their assessment. A few activities might be to make a timeline, a poster, book review, author study, commercial, book trailer, comic strip etc.
