Owl Moon (Picture Book) (Award Winning)

I read Owl Moon written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr.  This book was published by Scholastic Inc.  Own Moon is a story about a father and daughter who hike through the snow and into the woods to go Owling.  This book teaches that for some things, you don't need words, warm, or anything but hope.
The illustrations in this book are full of white to represent the great amount of snow, and many dark colors to create the dark woods.  This book to me, can be a bit dry to read and as a teacher, I would need to read this book using a lot of energy.  The words aren't very difficult, so students could be able to even read this book to each other in small reading groups.
I think a great classroom activity a teacher could do with their classroom would be to discuss different situations in life where we have experienced moments where no words were needed.  I would possibly have students draw a picture of some scene they enjoyed from the story, and write two or three facts about Owling that they learned from this book.
