Hansel and Gretel by Brothers Grimm (Fairytale) (Traditional)

I read Hansel and Gretel written by the Brothers Grimm.  This fairytale is about brother and sister Hansel and Gretel.  Food was scarce in the land, so against their father's will, their evil step mother led them deep into the forrest to leave them there.  Hansel left a trail of bread crumbs in hopes that him and Gretel would be able to find their way out. By the time their step mother had deserted them in the forrest, the bread crumbs had been eaten by birds.  Hansel and Gretel were alone and very hungry.  They began walking in hopes of finding their way back home, unfortunately they were walking in the wrong direction.  Soon, Hansel and Gretel discovered a house completely made out of candy.  Their hunger took over and they began eating the house.  The evil witch who lived their just so happened to be a cannibal and found Hansel and Gretel eating her home.  She captured them and locked them in a cage inside of her home.  The witch began to boil a pot of water where she would cook Hansel and Gretel and create a stew out of them.  While the witch was stirring the boiling water, Hansel escaped from the cage and crept up behind the witch.  Hansel pushed the witch into the pot of water and she died.  Hansel helped Gretel escape, and as they were leaving the house, they found a bunch of treasure.  They brought this treasure back to their home.  By the time they returned home, their evil step mother had died.  Their father was so grateful to see them and they were able to afford all of the food they needed with their new treasure.
I think an edited or censored version of this book would be alright to read in the classroom.  The original version of this book is a bit graphic and inappropriate for younger children in my opinion.
I don't think I would do any classroom activity or lesson with this book.  If I were to read this fairytale to my students, it would just be for fun or when we were discussing fairytales.
