Miss Fannie's Hat (Picture Book)

I read Miss Fannie's Hat written by Jan Karon and illustrated byToni Goffe.  This book was published by Puffin Books.  This is the story about ninety-nine year old Miss Fannie and all of her hats.  Miss Fannie lives with her daughter who takes care of Miss Fannie.  Every Sunday, Miss Fannie wears one of her many, many hats.  One day, the preacher of the church asks Miss Fannie to donate one of her hats to the church auction.  Miss Fannie goes through many of her hats and explains the many memories that these hats brought to her.  This story shows about the selfless love Miss Fannie shows in her donation to her church!
I think the illustrations in this book are so beautiful and love the decoration and details shown on Miss Fannie's hats.  I remember reading this book with my mother when I was younger and trying to decide which hat was my favorite.  This story has quite a few pages and each page has many words.  I think this book is a great book to read in the classroom, but maybe over a period of two sessions to keep the attention of the children.
I think a great classroom activity a teacher could do with their classroom would be to discuss the importance of generosity and giving and the difference you can create in the lives of others.  I think it would be a great classroom activity to create a service project to help out either in our school or community!
