The illustrations in this book are full of color and really exotic. They really show a lot of details and features that show what the jungle is like. This story is a rather simple one to read and has a lot of basic words that would be easy for young children to identify. I think this book is a great book to read in the classroom with easy to follow language and a bit of repetition for chidden to catch on and read along.
I think a great classroom activity a teacher could do with their classroom would be to discuss perspective. We could discuss how something that may be very big for one person may actually be something very small for another. This is portrayed in the size of animals in the book, but in a classroom setting we can discuss the size of different issues we may experience during life.
Subject: Bravery, perspective
- Genre: Animals
- Here is a YouTube link to a video of performance children put on of this book. I think it would be a good idea to create a performance of this book with my own class.
